The Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel in Hong Kong has returned to full operations after a significant incident involving a fuel truck led to its temporary closure. The tunnel was offline for almost seven hours following the accident, which occurred on Saturday.

The Accident Details

At approximately 12:52 PM, police responded to reports of a medium truck that had veered off course, crashing into the tunnel’s right wall while traveling along Cha Kwo Ling Road towards Tseung Kwan O. The 53-year-old driver suffered injuries to his head and was subsequently taken to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong for treatment.

According to police reports, the collision resulted in significant damage: it also destroyed several traffic signs and affected about 50 meters (or 164 feet) of wall inside the tunnel. After the truck tipped over and spilled biodiesel, rapid responses were initiated to handle the situation safely.

Tunnel Operations Resume

Following the incident, the eastern side of the tunnel, which directs traffic towards Tseung Kwan O, was promptly closed. An operations controller named Po confirmed that the area was reopened shortly before 7:44 PM, allowing traffic to flow normally once again.
