Tomorrowland Makes History with First Asia Edition in Thailand

The highly anticipated Tomorrowland festival, one of the biggest names in electronic dance music (EDM), is set to launch its first-ever comprehensive edition in Asia this December, taking place in Thailand. With a reputation for vibrant celebrations of music and creativity, Tomorrowland is expanding its reach and aims to make a significant impact in this exciting new locale.

Why Thailand?

Thailand was selected for this prestigious event due to its “growing influence on the global stage of music, innovation, and experience-driven tourism,” according to Tomorrowland executives. The festival, which first started in Belgium two decades ago, has consistently showcased elaborate stages and energetic parties that attract music enthusiasts from around the globe.

What to Expect in Pattaya

Scheduled to run from December 11 to 13 in the picturesque beach town of Pattaya, the festival organizers anticipate hosting over 50,000 attendees each day. Tickets for the event are set to go on pre-sale starting January 8, with a “full madness pass” for all three days priced at 12,500 baht (approximately $400 or £300), while single-day passes will be available for 5,100 baht.

Upcoming Details

As excitement builds, organizers will reveal more information regarding the festival’s themes and artist line-ups in the coming weeks. While Tomorrowland has previously hosted events in various Asian cities, this marks its first full festival on the continent, mirroring the scale and energy of its flagship Belgium festival.

A Promising Future

Thailand has secured a five-year agreement with Tomorrowland, with expectations that the festival will generate 21 billion baht (around $673 million or £497 million) during that period. Bruno Vanwelsenaers, Tomorrowland’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating, “Expanding Tomorrowland to a new continent is a milestone we approach with great respect and excitement… This is the beginning of a long-term story.”

Thailand’s Emerging Music Scene

In recent years, Thailand has emerged as a vibrant hub for live music, hosting renowned events like the Electric Daisy Carnival and Creamfields, and even being a stop on K-pop sensation Blackpink’s world tour last October. Additionally, the local music and arts festival, Wonderfruit, has gained traction, attracting tens of thousands of attendees each year and solidifying Thailand’s position on the global festival map.

  • Over 50,000 attendees are expected daily in Pattaya from December 11 to 13.
  • Tickets go on pre-sale January 8, with both full and single-day passes available.
