Hong Kong Hospitality Group Expands into Xiongan New Area

A new chapter in the development of Xiongan New Area, located southwest of Beijing, is being penned with the entry of a prominent hotel operator. This venture signifies a budding collaboration between Hong Kong’s private sector and a state-backed initiative aimed at propelling this district into a technological innovation hub.

Langham Hospitality Group’s New Project

Langham Hospitality Group, a subsidiary of Great Eagle Holdings based in Hong Kong, recently announced its plans to open two hotels in Xiongan through a management agreement with China Xiongan Group Public Service Management. This development is positioned approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Beijing in Hebei province.

Covering an area of about 23,700 square meters (approximately 255,000 square feet), the hotel complex will feature 300 rooms under the Cordis and Ying’nFlo brands. The opening is anticipated in the second quarter of 2028.

Supporting Emerging Needs

Bob van den Oord, CEO of Langham, expressed confidence in the project’s potential. “As the city develops, our dual-brand strategy is designed to address the diverse travel needs that will emerge with its growth,” he stated.

Government Push for Development

This initiative aligns with President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Xiongan, during which he emphasized the necessity for accelerated progress in transforming the area into “an innovation hub for the new era.” State media reported his vision for Xiongan as a benchmark for high-quality development.

Xi outlined the zone’s primary objective: to relieve Beijing from non-essential functions such as the relocation of state-owned enterprises, educational institutions, and hospitals, while simultaneously nurturing emerging industries and enhancing public services.

Strategic Significance of Xiongan

Introduced in 2017, Xiongan has emerged as a focal point of China’s regional growth strategy, intended to alleviate the pressures faced by the capital and promote balanced development throughout the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.
