Leadership Transition at AWARE Marks New Chapter for Women’s Advocacy in Singapore
The Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) has recently undergone a significant leadership change as of January 1, 2026. After 16 impactful years, Corinna Lim is stepping down as the executive director, handing the reins to Lim Shoon Yin, a seasoned expert in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Corinna Lim, who has been at the helm since AWARE’s inception, will continue in an advisory capacity for the next six months to ensure a smooth transition before fully stepping back from the organization.
AWARE’s Mission and Growth Under Corinna Lim
Founded in 1985, AWARE focuses on research and advocacy surrounding key issues affecting women in Singapore. This includes addressing workplace discrimination, instances of sexual harassment, the economic challenges faced by older women, and holding Singapore accountable for its commitments to United Nations standards on gender equality.
Corinna Lim, who has a legal background and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University, first joined AWARE as a volunteer in 1992. During her early years, she provided pro bono legal counselling for women experiencing workplace harassment and domestic abuse, discovering firsthand the struggles of those who could not afford legal aid.
Recognizing her passion for women’s rights, she transitioned from corporate law to focus on this critical work, eventually serving as AWARE’s honorary secretary in 2006 and then becoming its inaugural executive director in 2010.
Achievements during Corinna Lim’s Tenure
Under Corinna Lim’s leadership, AWARE saw substantial growth, expanding its staff to over 30 individuals while enhancing its research, advocacy, and care services. Noteworthy initiatives include the establishment of the Sexual Assault Care Centre at Dover Crescent and the launch of Catalyse, AWARE’s corporate training division dedicated to promoting gender equality in the workplace.
Additionally, AWARE played a pivotal role in advocating for vital legislative changes. The organization contributed to new bills focused on workplace protections, improvements in paternity leave, greater housing access for single mothers, and strengthened legal protections for survivors of sexual violence.
“AWARE has never been about one person – it has always been about people who refuse to accept that inequality is normal,” Corinna Lim stated. “I have been privileged to serve alongside colleagues, partners and supporters who are willing to stay with difficult questions and work for change over time. It feels like the right moment to pass the baton.”

With Lim Shoon Yin stepping in, AWARE is poised for a new era under fresh leadership. As a DEI expert, she brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly help advance the organization’s mission of fostering gender equality and social justice in Singapore.
