In the aftermath of one of Hong Kong’s most devastating fires, the lives of survivors have been thrown into disarray. “I am physically tired, and my mind is also tired,” Zulaikho shared, reflecting on her exhausting experience. “I cannot sleep soundly.” Like many others, she lost everything in the blaze, holding onto only her phone and ID card, which she had when she narrowly escaped from the flames.

To navigate this tumultuous period, Zulaikho has leaned on a network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government assistance, and support from her local consulate to help her regain stability. On a recent Sunday, she stood in line with dozens of other survivors from Indonesia, collectively queuing for aid packages that included suitcases, shoes, and other essential supplies distributed by six local NGOs.
