Six Indonesian Men Arrested for Illegal Entry into Singapore
Early on Sunday morning, six Indonesian men aged between 23 and 29 were taken into custody for illegally entering Singapore, according to a report by local law enforcement.
Coast Guard Interception
The Police Coast Guard (PCG) identified a wooden boat carrying the six men at around 12:35 AM while patrolling the waters off Tanah Merah, part of Singapore’s territorial waters. Upon noticing the vessel, the PCG swiftly intercepted it and arrested the individuals aboard for their unlawful entry.
Motivation Behind the Entry
Initial investigations indicated that the men had planned to enter Singapore without authorization in hopes of finding work. The potential repercussions for their actions are significant; they are expected to face charges in court on Monday. If convicted, each could receive a sentence of up to six months in jail, along with at least three strokes of the cane as part of their punishment.
Commitment to Border Security
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ang Eng Seng, the Commander of the Police Coast Guard, praised his team’s alertness and cooperative efforts during the operation. He emphasized that the PCG remains dedicated to combating immigration violations to safeguard Singapore’s waters and coastal boundaries from any threats.
